Why I Oughta!

Cappy is approximately two feet tall and works at the same Fat City precinct as Two-Headed Cop, but doesn’t seem to do any actual police work. His main function is as The Chief’s yes man, and, as a result, he and The Chief have formed a sort of symbiotic relationship, not unlike the remora fish and the shark. Sometimes he’ll even sit on one of The Chief’s giant shoulders like a parrot on a pirate. Mostly he’s just cracking wise at an actual cop and pretending he’s in charge. He and C-Ray, in particular, don’t get along well.

To influence our designer we went with a classic angry little guy, James Cagney, as well as Richard Widmark, just for his general grinning impishness.

We also wanted to give Cappy a little bit of a Zoot suit vibe, which we’d mostly been avoiding with the other characters, just because we thought it would be funny if it were more the result of an ill-fitting suit rather than a stylistic decision. So, the suit on the left was a starting point, but we wanted to get that “that suit is strangely large on him” vibe from the fellow on the right.

Here are some more early sketches from our designer Anna:

And finally, this was another piece of reference we sent Anna that really nailed it. I call him “Little Bad-Ass”.

I would not mess with that little dude.
