Fury like you’ve never seen!!

It’s The Chief, Two-Headed Cop’s riddled-with-rage boss. We decided to take the stereotype of the ornery police captain and push it to an extreme, to the point where he stands and behaves like an extremely confrontational silverback ape. He’s always screaming, occasionally flips tables, and the sweat on his temples usually boils away from the heat of his angry brow.

Here’s some of the reference we sent Anna to launch her designs. Of course, the ape stance is crucial, but we didn’t want him to actually look like a gorilla, so we included Jack O’Halloran (from Superman 2), the legendary Jack Elam, mostly for the eyes, and everybody’s favorite Bond villain, Richard Kiel, a.k.a. “Jaws”.

The Chief’s bugging eyes were also based on this sketchy dude I worked for, for just one day, back when I was a teenager. It was a temp job where we moved a buncha desks into a new business, and the guy in charge - and I’m really feeling like his name was Sparky - would always approach us with a look of intense rage on his face: white surrounding the irises of his eyes, push-broom mustache bristling, jaw clenched, mullet flared. He’d look at you like he was about to bite your head off, but then he would just talk very calmly, as if nothing was wrong. I kept thinking I was about to get yelled at for some unknown reason, and apparently it was just the way this guy looked when he was relatively relaxed. We kinda wanted that vibe with the Chief, but in his case he really is about to bite your head off.
